John Alber serves as Futurist for the Institute for Future of Law Practice, and for the International Legal Technology Association. He writes, speaks and consults widely, focusing on finding practical ways to reshape the delivery of legal services to suit a future demanding excellence far beyond substantive legal skills.
Prior to his current role, John was a transportation industry CEO. Thereafter, he led Bryan Cave LLP to become one of the most innovative firms in the world, serving as its Strategic Innovation Partner for more than 16 years. While at Bryan Cave, he also served for 7 years on the firm's Operating Group (its management committee).
At Bryan Cave, John created one of the first Practice Economics consulting groups, one of the client facing technology groups and one of the first in-firm legal process outsourcing (LPO) organizations. The groups he created developed innovative web-based, client-centric applications that delivered legal advice to clients, managed complex workflows and even created pleadings automatically. They also developed client-facing knowledge management, project management, project estimation and business intelligence systems and highly technology- leveraged alternative staffing solutions for engagements of all types.
John is an Emeritus fellow of the College of Law Practice Management. He has received a number of awards, both in the legal field and in information technology generally. Among other awards, he received ILTA's first ever Premiership Award, was named American Lawyer Media’s first ever ‘Champion of Technology', was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by Law Technology News and recognized as one of the ‘Top 25 CTOs’ in the world by Infoworld. In addition, while under his leadership, Bryan Cave received recognition as a CIO Magazine ‘Top 100 Company' and was twice recognized as ILTA’s Most Innovative Firm.
A partner in the Toronto office of Stikeman Elliott LLP, Andrea is responsible for the strategic direction of knowledge management and innovation - leading the firm's KM initiatives and working with practising lawyers and clients on innovative approaches to delivering legal services. As part of her practice, she leads client mandates to collaboratively develop solutions using a blend of legal knowledge, technology expertise, process improvement and project implementation experience. During his career, he has held several C-level positions at leading Amlaw 100 firms including Cadwalader, Reed Smith and Sheppard Mullin. In 2016 he was inducted as a Fellow into the College of Law Practice Management and in 2013 was named by the National Law Journal to their inaugural list of 50 Business of Law Trailblazers & Pioneers.
As a Partner at Fireman & Company, Tom specializes in building and leading teams aimed at improving firm efficiencies, profitability, attorney working practices and user experiences. His career success stems from a deep understanding of law firm financials and business practices then strategically aligning them with legal processes, attorney behaviors, and best of breed legal technologies.
Tom has been a member of a number of industry boards including the Thomson Reuters Engage Advisory Board, Law Technology News Editorial Advisory Board, the Lexis Nexis Advisory Council, and the Law.com Technology Advisory Board. He is regularly asked to present at and chair international and domestic conferences covering emerging trends in the legal industry.
Chris Boyd is the chief operating officer for Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, California. Chris leads the firm’s teams that handle attorney recruiting, business development, diversity and inclusion, human resources, knowledge management, marketing, practice management, professional development, research and information services, and work allocation. These teams work with firm and practice leaders to implement processes, programs, and tools that support the firm’s business goals and help the firm deliver more value to clients.
Chris has an undergraduate degree from Princeton University and a law degree from Stanford Law School. Before joining Wilson Sonsini’s management team, he worked as a management consultant, corporate and securities attorney, and technology company knowledge management leader. As Littler's Director of Research Services, Cynthia Brown leads a team of research librarians, assistant librarians and interns to provide the firm’s lawyers and clients with the research resources they need to succeed.
Cynthia is part of the firm’s knowledge management leadership team and is involved daily in the Knowledge Management Department’s efforts to develop innovative systems, procedures and work flows. She reports directly to the firm’s Chief Knowledge Officer.
She manages and creates roadmaps for the collection of critical data, sifting of data for relevance and preparing that data to be pushed out to the right people at the right time. She also oversees all of the firm’s research-vendor relationships, utilizes analytics to determine which tools are needed to maintain the relationships and gathers important data for negotiations. In addition, Cynthia investigates new research and technology tools to ensure that the firm has cutting-edge resources.
Cynthia started Littler’s legislative tracking team in 2010. The team feeds Littler GPS, the firm’s client-based flagship service. Thousands of bills are reviewed daily via a custom built system to provide Littler’s attorneys and clients with insights about pending and enacted labor and employment legislations on federal, state and local levels.
Cynthia leads the team that created the Knowledge Desk, a resource that enables Littler’s attorneys to connect to subject matter experts and a vast collection of databases, print materials, practice group information, internal work product and proprietary data collections. The Knowledge Desk team efficiently searches to locate the exact nugget of knowledge that attorneys need.
Via the Knowledge Desk, attorneys are connected to law firm librarians who are perfectly suited to liaise between attorneys and a legal KM department. With adept archival, research, organization, analysis and synthesis skills, Cynthia’s team takes the guesswork out of determining who to contact, where information resides and determining which external or internal resource best addresses an attorney’s need. During its first year the Knowledge Desk proved to be extraordinarily successful taking in over 18,000 requests, with 26,000 requests expected in its second year.
Cynthia is a member of the Utah State Bar, the American Association of Law Librarians, the Mid-American Association of Law Libraries, the Kansas City Association of Law Libraries and Private Law Librarians and Information Professionals. Prior to joining Littler Cynthia served as head librarian at a full-service regional law firm and as General Counsel at a privately held company.
With a legal technology career that spans more than two decades, Kate Cain has impacted nearly every aspect of a global, multi-service law firm. She recently joined Foundation Software Group as Director of Innovation and Design to help guide the direction of the Foundation Firm Intelligence platform.
Kate has focused on delivering actionable intelligence to advance firm strategy, practice growth and relationship building at firms including Sidley Austin, Winston & Strawn and Kirkland & Ellis. She has led technology initiatives that spanned marketing, business development, finance, pricing, knowledge management and operations. These initiatives included establishing global relationship and experience management strategies along with the technologies to support them and building market and business intelligence functions that institutionalized the use of sophisticated analytics to support data-driven decision making.
A recipient of the Monica Bay STEM Leadership Award and the ILTA Distinguished Peer Award for Leadership, Kate is a long-time volunteer with ILTA, most recently having served six years on the Board of Directors. She is a frequent speaker and author on information and knowledge management and leadership topics.

Richard Robbins is the Director of Knowledge Management at Sidley Austin LLP. He is one of the leaders of Sidley’s firm-wide Knowledge Management efforts and is a member of a group of people who identify, assess and, when appropriate, introduce innovative technology to the firm’s practice. He serves as a bridge to the global legal knowledge management and legal artificial intelligence communities.
Before assuming his current position with Sidley in 2016, he was the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Morningstar, Inc. Before joining Morningstar in 2005, he was a partner at Sidley. Jill Strand is the Senior Manager of Library and Knowledge Information Systems for Fish & Richardson, a top intellectual property law firm. Prior to that she was Director of the Knowledge Management Library at Maslon LLP, a Research Librarian at Faegre & Benson and started a library for a division of Target Corporation in her first job out of graduate school. Before becoming an information professional, she worked as a regional sales manager for Simon & Schuster. Jill earned her MLIS from Dominican University and her B.S. in Journalism from the Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University. She has been an active member of SLA since 2000, was named an SLA Fellow in 2010 and served on the Board of Directors from 2014-2016 and as President in 2015. Her honors include Ohio University Honors Tutorial College Outstanding Alumnus Award and Minnesota Unsung Legal Hero Award in 2018, SLA Legal Division Career Achievement Award in 2016 and SLA Membership Achievement Award in 2013. She also authored a chapter on cost recovery for the Handbook of Information Management (Emerald Publishing.)

Abby Walters is the Senior Knowledge Information Systems Analyst for Fish & Richardson. Prior to that, she served as the Library Director at the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General, and as the Library Manager for Maslon LLP. Abby earned her MLIS from Dominican University and her B.A. in Sociocultural Studies from Bethel University. Abby is a member of Special Libraries Association (SLA) and the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL), serving three years on the AALL Annual Meeting Planning Committee, and as a team lead for the 2020 AALL Virtual Conference. She is currently serving as Past-President for the MN Association of Law Libraries (MALL). Abby has been a speaker at multiple MALL meetings, the 2015 AALL Annual Meeting, and most recently for a 2020 SLA Asia webinar.

Ms. Williams-Range received a Bachelor's of Business Administration with concentration in Accounting followed by a Juris Doctorate from the University of Memphis. She is admitted to practice in the state of Tennessee & New York. Ms. Williams-Range is a member of the Association of Women Attorneys and the American, New York, Tennessee and Memphis Bar Associations. Sahil is Head of Business, Legal Transaction Management for iManage and a co-founder of iManage Closing Folders, a market-leading legal transaction management (LTM) solution used by firms on over 4,500 active deals per month. Sahil is a lawyer and worked at the Toronto office of Baker & McKenzie before founding Closing Folders. He also served in the Canadian Armed Forces, including a tour in Afghanistan in 2008.
